Courtesy his newsletter, here’s the latest news on main man Nitin Sawhney. I haven’t heard Philtre yet but it’s gotten good reviews. I’d say Nitin and Shri are my biggest inspirations among UK Asian musicians. It would be amazing to have them collaborate — mind-boggling.
Nitin did collabos with Brit-Asian pop crooner Raghav and some dude named Will Young — he was with some British boy band, I think. Both tracks will appear on new albums in the near future. Please Nitin, don’t recycle that ‘Murder She Wrote’ rhythm that Raghav jacked for that ‘Teri Baaton’ song or whatever it was called.
Nitin also composed the soundtrack for Mira Nair’s latest opus The Namesake based on Jhumpa Lahiri’s book, starring Irrfan Khan, Tabu, and our man Kal Penn. Now that should be very cool — the only OST of Nitin’s I’ve heard is from Dev Benegal’s Split Wide Open with boy toy Rahul Bose. I’d love to get a hold of Nitin’s orchestral work but I don’t know if any of it has been commercially released.
Over and out.
